Booking a tour of Tokyo 2007/10/1 15:07
Do you suggest booking a city tour on our first day of arrival.

Will this give us a better overall perspective of the city and it localities?

Can you recommend any tour companyies. Are some better than others eg. better information provided or time scheduling is better to see sites?)

arrival day 2007/10/1 19:56
Depends on what time you arrive at Narita airport. Calculate one hour between scheduled time of arrival for short delay and going through passport and luggage pickup. Calculate two hours between buying train/bus ticket and arriving at hotel in city centre. Expect no to be allowed to check in room earlier but 13 h, 14 h, or 15 h ( check with your hotel ), so no fresh up before the city tour. Most afternoon city tours start at around 13.00 h and bookings is to be made minimum one day in advance, as in general vouchers are being send to the hotel. So check carefully if arrival day tour is not too stressful.

Depending on where you're coming from, you'll probably be tired when you get there. I'd give it till the third day if you're going to book a tour.
