koyo & weather forecast for November ? 2007/10/19 04:19
As I learned from the wonderful koyo foto report on this website, 2006 was rather mild. - Are there any forecasts for November 2007 already ?

Question 2: does it make sense to plan an overnight stay at Koya-san around the 25 November?
The Koya-san website says that it is really cool there. Does this apply for the topmost part of the mountain or also around shukubo places? (I don't know exactly where the shukubo places are located.)

There are many such sites in Japanese, but I have not found a detailed one in English yet.

Some Japanese ones are:
http://www.rurubu.com/season/autumn/koyo/
http://sp.weather.yahoo.co.jp/weather/jp/leisure/momiji/
http://www.walkerplus.com/koyo/
http://kouyou.nihon-kankou.or.jp/

It is too late for autumn leaves.

The Koya-san website says that it is really cool there. Does this apply for the topmost part of the mountain or also around shukubo places?

The shukubo are pretty close to the top of the mountain (about 900 meters above sea level). Daytime highs are typically around 10 degrees, while nighttime lows are typically around 0 degree. I don't consider it very cold. Just make sure to bring suitable clothes.

Koyo & weather forecast for November 2007/11/26 22:54
hi
I checked the JMA Koyo forecast table mentioned in this thread.
Could anyone please confirm if Dec 1st/ 2nd is right time to visit Kamakura or Tokyo (Meiji Jingu Gaien)? Are the peak season over already?
Also please provide information about koyo leaves in Narita temple at the same time. Thanks in advance.

Temperatures have fallen considerably in recent weeks and that has sped up the coloring process. Many spots in Tokyo and Kyoto seem to have reached the peak of the season. Five days ago, Meiji Jingu Gaien was not yeat among them (reported at 40% by Rurubu):

So, I suspect that the autumn colors in Meiji Jingu Gaien and Kamakura will probably still be quite beautiful in early December.

Some of the trees around Yoyogi Koen, the walkway by NHK Hall, and Omotesando Ave were just beginning to turn color late last week so it hasn't reached its peak yet. When I was at Tobu World in Tochigi last Monday (it was noticably colder than Tokyo or Kyoto; around 7-10 degrees celsius), some of the trees up in the mountains in back of the park were just starting to turn color.
