we are planning for a trip to Nagoya. Staying in hotel in Nagoya city.. travelling to nearby town.. Seems like JR Pass is not suitable? We used Kansai Pass on previous trip to Osaka/Nara/Kyoto/Himeji and it was great! Is there any such pass for Nagoya area?

You have to be careful, around Nagoya many lines are not JR but Meitetsu, to Toyota for example, so Japan railpass is no use

depends if it is Meitetse subway, if you wanna catch the centair it can get pretty pricey, maybe 800yen each way from nagoya shi. Dont really worry about JR pass for Nagoya, JR line isnt as good as Meitetu and kintetse, but these are both better then subway. for the subway lines are a little confusing,

I am not sure but I've heard that meitetsu trains which is probably the fastest way to get to Nagoya from central have luggage compartment above the seats and also under the seats like a plane. Which makes sense to me if it's that way.
We will travel thru Central this coming year so I'll know more later.
