Can you be more specific?
What kind of connection are you looking for?
Linguistically or otherwise?

In Japan autumn is the harvest time for the staple food - rice. Thus there are a lot of matsuri (festivals) in autumn when the weather is nice in most part of Japan.
(Of course in other seasons there are also some matsuri, too.)

Matsuri was started to celebrate the harvest, namely, rice. So, there is a big connection.
