akita inus, where to visit? 2007/11/13 11:03
I will be traveling to Japan in a few days, specifically Tokyo,Kanagawa, Osaka and Nagoya. I have had akita dogs all my life, and am wondering if there is anywhere to visit that pays tribute/honor to the akita. Any museums to visit? Any ideas/info appreciated!

Akita Inu Introduction Foundation has a museum but not in Tokyo (in Akita, north part of Japan). This foundation holds Akita Inu Exhibitions frequently. In November, Kanto District Exhibition is held at Meiji Park in Shinjuku on Novemver 23rd.

You can see the most famous dog in Japan, Hachiko, in the Natural History Museum in Ueno Park. Its bronze statue is on the west exit of Shibuya station. Another stature was erected outside the Odate station in Akita prefecture.

The taxidermy of "Hachi-ko" the most famous akita dog is there.
