If I am going to live in Tokyo, where is the closest place to go surf? is the spot any good?

The surf at Shonan is not particularly good, waves are small unless there is a typhoon in the vicinity. The water is packed with surfers and being so close to Tokyo not that clean.
The Chiba beaches eg. Kujukuri, Onjuku are slightly better but further away. There is no "good" surf within an easy trip of Tokyo really, so people just go where there is any surf.
More serious surfers I heave heard head to the Ibaragi coast.
