Is it possible for a Canadian like me to try kyudo and yabusame, or is that only for Japanese people?

Kyudo can be practiced by anybody. You just need to find a club. I am pretty sure there are clubs even in Canada.
As for finding an opportunity to practice yabusame, I imagine it is very difficult even for Japanese people.

it is like a perticipant observation. In kyoto we have small but traditional groups called "Machi Shoo" only a several or less "Machi Shoo" group can send their representatives to the competition.
Anyway you can try!!
