NYE in Kyoto or Osaka

Hi. I am in Japan from London, England for New Year. I am thinking about going to Osaka or Kyoto for New Year any one think this would be a good idea?

I cannot find hotels available in Kyoto but many in Osaka. Does anyone know if there will be any special trains back from Kyoto to Osaka?

I think it is a nice idea joining the people flocking to the temples and shrines. Expect big crowds. And I assume you are familiar with the other issues mentioned here:

As for special trains, yes, trains between Kyoto and Osaka will be running all night from December 31 to January 1.

thanks for your reply. It has really helped. I think I may now spend NYE in Tokyo where my accomodation is booked and travel down to Osaka on Jan 1st instead as it seems this may be slightly quieter on the train.
