I lost my wallet while I was overseas, and when I came back to Japan they just gave me a new Alien Registration Card. I'm wondering however, if this means I have to re-apply for another re-entry permit because my Alien Registration number got changed from 123456781 to 123456782. It's exactly the same except for the last number.
I asked my Visa Advisor at my college, and she said I shouldn't need to get a new one because the date of entry on my new card is the same as the one on my re-entry permit--but I'm a little paranoid.

As long as all the other details on your card match your passport and visa I think you should be all right. You can always explain what happened. If in doubt call the regional immigration office to ask.
