I'va been a couple of times to Japan (for holiday), and the last time (last november) I noticed that many people (on the street, television etc etc), are using the word "anno". Now I am wondering what it means??

It should only have one "n" when written in romaji as 2 n's would give it a different pronunciation and hiragana spelling.

I always thought it's spelled 'anou'. :)
Same goes for 'etou', which you can also hear sometimes at the beginning of sentences.
