Hi, I was planning to visit Tokyo between 1 to 5 Jan. However, after reading this link ( http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2276.html) realised that many places will be closed. Any ideas on whether I should postpone the trip or go ahead? Thanks very much!

I suggest to come Japan Jan1~5.
Japan is not like Christmas period in Europa.
Jan 1 you had better visit shrine. specially NEIJI JINGU(at HARAJUKU sta)
you can feel some special feelings.
from day 2 I think almost shops open.
if you have more question ask me again.

Lee, it depends on where you want to go and what you want to see. Yes, shops start open from Jan 2nd (some even open on Jan 1st) but many museums are closed during New Year holidays.
