Japan - Dec 27 to Jan 3 2007/12/12 13:15
Hi!

Our family of 5 will be travelling to Japan from Dec 27 to Jan 3: Itinerary as follows:

Dec 27: Arrive in Narita, Airport
Dec 27 - 29: Stay in Hakone
Dec 29 - Jan 3: Stay in Shinkuju

We are having trouble deciding on the transportation system and which rail pass to get. Would it be worthwhile to get the JR Japan Rail Pass? or should we do separate hakone and tokyo day passes?

Also, we don't have anything particularly planned. Any suggestion as to what to do or see in hakone and shinjuku? Shopping?

We would like to go to Disneyland on Jan 1 (is this a good day to go)?

Any help would be great!!!

Thanks,
Jen

It may be (slightly) less crowded in the late afternoon and evening but there's no guarantee that you can enter the park in the morning. Many remain from the count-down party of Dec 31st.

Hakone 2007/12/12 23:54
No JR Rail Pass as you do no long distance travelling by rail. To Hakone by Hakone Free Pass from/to Tokyo-Shinjuku station. BUT you have accommodation in Hakone already booked? Expect to be heavily booked in the last week of 2007. A Tokyo day pass only if you do more than 6 rides per day about.
