Last train on 31st December? 2007/12/17 15:16
Hi,

Would like to ask what time does the last train (JR & Metro) operates on 31st December?

Would be attending Countdown events but am worried about public transportation back to the hotel.

TIA!

Which route are you going to take? Many JR/subways run throught night from 31st to 1st.

Would most likely be taking the Marunouchi Subway Line.

Another possible route would be to take the JR Chuo-Sobu line before transferring to the Yamanote Line.

Hi, for trains, you can get a list of options from the link below. Remember to select ''unreserved seat'' under ''charge fare''. From my experience the subways do generally run later though. Saying that, depending on how late you want to be out, and where you are, things start up again pretty early as well.

Thanks! That was a really useful website.

Was just wondering if there would be extended operating hours for 31st December, seeing that countdown events usually end an hour or two after midnight...

Almost all train and subway lines in central Tokyo will be running through the night from December 31 to January 1.

Does anyone know how the train service will be for the Tobu Tojo line on the night of New Years?

As for hyperdia, the website is useful, but sometimes gives wrong information, so I recommend to always check against

This site usually gives better results, but even there the information is sometimes wrong!

From December 31 into Jan 1 is one of the rare times that trains are operating all night (though sometimes at longer intervals).

Tobu Tojo Line 2007/12/18 09:28
Haf,

Does anyone know how the train service will be for the Tobu Tojo line on the night of New Years?

Trains don't run all through the night. The last train from Ikebukuro will be the 0106 to Shiki (30 minutes later than usual). The first train in the morning from Ikebukuro will be the 0405 to Kawagoeshi (1 hour earlier than usual).

Thanks for the info Dave.

I need to go past Kawagoe-shi, so it seems like partying till next morning seems to be the best option. :)
