Planning to spend some time in Karuizawa but not hitting the slopes everyday. Are most shops in Karuizawa closed in winter?

Are you talking about the Prince Outlet mall or the Karuizawa Ginza? Eitherway, the shops are most definitely open in the winter. I was just there yesterday and everything it was crowded with holiday shoppers.
