My husband and I are expecting a little girl in March and so far we haven't named her. We just call her "little." Since my husband is 1/2 Japanese we wondered if little in Japanese would be a good name. Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

lt depends...

It depends on context. For example, when i was little,,,, we translate it into,,watashi ga chiisakatta(chiisai) koro... in this context, little is chiisa. but when you say we have a little rain today, in this context little is sukoshi. so it really depends on context.
we also say it chotto. hope it helps you. Chao!

You must be so excited to see your little baby girl in March. Are you thinking of naming her in Japanese? Well, normally we do not use 'little' for a girl's name. But Japanese parents create all kinds of names using kanji so it can be interesting for you to think of nicer names as a candidate.

April,
In this case, you could use "chibi", meaning "titch". But how would you feel if your parents had given you a name that meant "little"?

I agree with Dave in Saitama that "chibi" is the *equivalent* of "little" in Japanese when referring to people.
And I also agree that probably I would not want to be named that... because "chibi" does not come with the adoring, loving connotation that "little" in English still comes with - it's more like calling someone, "hey, shorty!," and also it is a name that is often given to, well, small pet dogs.
Kids are little when they are little, but they don't stay that way either...

小(こ/ko) means 'little' mostly using female name like this. 小雪(こゆき/ko・yuki) (yuki=snow) 小夏(こなつ/ko・natsu) (natsu=summer) 小春(こはる/ko・haru) (haru=spring) 小鈴(こすず/ko・suzu) etc. (suzu=bell)

heres a little list of words meaning "little" with a few variations of course.
LIST:
Sukoshi Chotto Chiisai Choppiri Chippoke Chicchai Wazuka
Or you could also try dropping or adding different vowels to the end of the words. Just to give it a more "namely" and unique feel.
