Meiji jingu and Asakusa 2008/1/8 16:08
You can go to Meiji jingu easily by JR Yamanote line from Shinjuku to Harajuku.
If you also want to go to asakusa, then you can take subway ''meiji jingu mae'' station to ''Omote sando'' and change the train to ginza line down for ''Asakusa'' station
for more information, check this web site. http://www.jorudan.co.jp :D there's english version available.

Cake, except that Meji Jingu is a Shinto Shrine, and not a Buddhist temple.

Theresa, there are literally dozens apon dozens of temples of all sizes and shapes, there's even one in walking distance of the Hyatt in Shinjuku.

Depends on what you want to see.
If you want to visit a famous one, then going out to Asakusa to see Sensoji would be nice.
To get from Asakusa from Shinjuku, I would take the JR Chuo Line rapid service to Kanda Station then change to the subway Ginza Subway line to Asakusa.

I have also found out that the Budhist church suggested by John is the second oldest Budhist church in Tokyo. Tks too for the directions.

Temple, shrine, church, you have to be careful about your wording to avoid confusion sometimes.
