JR train between Hiroshima and Beppu

Hi guys,
I'll be travelling to Japan soon and have mapped out a 2 week trip from Sapporo right down to Beppu and back to Osaka to fly out - using the JR pass. Prior to reaching Beppu however, I'll be staying at hiroshima for a night. Will there be a train that takes me direct Beppu from Hiroshima? Or will I need to train back to Shin-Osaka to switch trains?

Take Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Kokura, then switch to Limited Express Sonic to Beppu. It takes about 2 hrs from Hiroshima.
