Thinking about Okinawa

I am working/living in Taiwan and I have several days off for Chinese New Year (2/6-2/11). I know I should have planned a trip a long time ago, but i did not. Anyway, I am thinking about going to Okinawa. What should I do and where should I go/stay? Also, what island is that best? Should I go to the mainland instead?
I could use any advice really.. but Okinawa sounds fun.
