Hi,
I am travelling to Japan in March on a New Zealand scholarship for 5 months and will be staying with a family in Japan, we don;t know where as yet. What is the easiest way to manage money while I am there?

Take whatever the host family gives to your for free. For example, food would be provided by the host family, so you can certainly cut back on food spending (which is a major part of anyone's budget).

Bring with you cash but if you can bring a Visa card or even your debt card from your bank back home you can go to the post offices here in Japan or to Citi Bank if you are near one, What kind of visa will you be traveling on?
