From Tokyo to Naha by ferry. 2008/1/31 17:49
Hello, I am going to Tokyo on the 8th of may this year and my plans are to go from Tokyo to Naha by ferry. I heard it only leaves once a week, and I would very much need to know what day that is, so I could plan my trip before hand. So I'm looking for information concerning week 20 which is the week starting on 12th of may, and specificly the day of the week the ferry leaves Tokyo.

Thank You,

Here is the official website:

They don't list departure days for May yet.

Not much help here 2008/1/31 19:03
Though I can say that ride will suck. I've done a HSV (high speed vessel) ride to Okinawa from Iwakuni. Takes forever, gets boring and what not. The price might be nice, but I would get a flight lol.

Personal preferences vary. There is no need to be overly opinionated.

As for the cost, a ferry ride between Tokyo and Okinawa is likely to come more expensive than a flight, even if you travel in the least comfortable 2nd class:

So cost is certainly not the reason to choose the ferry over the airplane.

You're right, and speaking from experience my preference is to take the plane and to get the most out of my time. I wasn't aware that it would be more expensive as I never looked into it thanks though lol. I know taking a boat from Fukuoka to Korea is cheaper than a flight (done that pretty cool saved a little money for cheap stuff lol).

ferry compared with plane 2008/1/31 19:26
Thank You for your answers. I did not realize that flying would be cheaper than taking the ferry.

I noticed there is this so called ''Oneworld Yokoso Visit Japan Pass''. Can this be purchased from Japan, or do I need to make some sort of reservation back home before i enter Japans soil, like in Japan Rail Pass?

Thanks for your time,

Skymark Airlines 2008/1/31 23:25
You might also want to look into Skymark Airlines. If booked far enough in advance fares are as inexpensive as 10,000 yen each way.

The Oneworld Pass and Skymark are the cheapest options available.

It is explained here under "air passes":
