It would be:
- Sore wa seikai desu ka? (Is that the correct answer?)
or
- Sono kotae wa seikai desu ka? (Is that answer the correct answer?)

"that"? 2008/2/3 13:47
AK is correct. But I can't imagine a situation where someone would say, "Is that correct? (Sore wa seikai desuka?)" That sounds as if though someone else said the answer and you're asking another person if that someone was really smart enough to make a correct answer.

Wouldn't you normally say, "Is THIS correct?" In this case, you would say "Kore wa seikai desuka?" or if you are not talking about an answer but just want to check if your Japanese is correct or something, you would say "Kore wa tadashii desuka?" or "Kore wa atte imasuka?"

It all depends on the context.

is that correct 2008/2/3 19:48
Uco, "Is that correct", is a common phrase used in English... However the translation makes it sound wrong but in fact I think "Kore wa atte imasuka" is the best translation, just not a transliteration.

Well, I've been wondering what the original poster wanted it for... and actually the way I phrased it (based on the original post) does sound like something that is used only on quiz or game show lol. So I would like to know what the intention is... :)

-------how to say "is that right/correct"

you can say 'sono' if you use 'kotae' 'koto' or something similar words.

Example: 'Sono koto ha seikai desuka?'

----'Kore wa atte imasuka?'--- implies
'is THIS correct?'
posters 'is THAT correct/right?' would be 'Sore ha atte imasuka?'

Just to say thanks 2008/2/4 16:31
Thank you TheRage800.

Actually, I was thinking of expressions like;

"Let me try my Japanese. Watashi wa Uco desu. Is this correct?"
or
"I think the answer to Question 1 is A and not B. Is this correct?"

But I do think that people commonly use the following expression;

A: I won first prize at the race today.
B: Is that right? (or "Is that correct?")

In the latter case, you would usually say, "Honto (desuka?)"

Just throwing in hints for people to think about.

Cc, I have to say that we don't usually say "Sono koto ha seikai desuka?" but we do say "Sono kotae ha seikai desuka?"
