beppu: a good place to travel with kids

We plan a trip with our 2 children (aged 10 and 12) this summer. We wonder what onsen are like for kids and is Beppu a good place to stay with them.

as noted on several threads on this site one cannot not wear bathing suits in an onsen. The water in the hot springs in Beppu is too hot for some people. besides that there are lots of amusement parks for children as the town is one of the most popular place in Japan

I think the kids will love the hells (it's a tourist trap for sure, but very fun) By the ticket to see all of them and walk around. There are many interesting hot air baths as well. You can also go to Fukuoka and see yatai at night.
