Kyoto - Baika Sai ceremony 2008/2/6 11:33
Hello, I'm going to be in Kyoto on the 25th of February and found on this site - http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/kws/winter_events/ - an event called Baika Sai where geishas host a tea ceremony at Kitano-tenmangu Shrine.
Does anyone have any first hand experiences with this particular event? I can't find much of anything on the net about it and am a bit apprehensive about going if it won't be worth it. I would absolutely love to get a few photos of geisha though.

I went to the festival ages ago but did not drink tea as I didn't want to queue up.

Tickets for tea ceremony (1500 yen)started selling as early as late January and only when they're not sold out (the number of tickets is only 3000), you can get a ticket on the day of the festival.

However, you can get a grimpse of the ceremony and an antique market is held on the same day.
This blog has some pictures on the festival in 2007.

glimpse, I mean. Sorry for mistypo.

If you stay at a full-service hotel in Kyoto, ask the concierge if they can get a ticket for you.
