I know there was a post on this on this forum before but i can't figure out how to reply to that one so i'm starting a new one:
a friend of mine is teaching in japan for a year and i want to send her something to her apartment but she's not sure how to write the address. can anyone tell me if this is a valid address and if it is, what's the best way to write it?: (this is how she gave it to me over instant messenger)
(my name) 230-0051 Yokohama-shi Kanagawa tsurumichuo Tsurumi-ku X-X-X japan
suggestions anyone?

English way: Name 1-2-3 Address City Postal Code Japanese way: Postal Code City Address 1-2-3 Name As explained here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2224.htmlSo, in your specific case, the usual way to write it in English would be: Name X-X-X tsurumichuo Tsurumi-ku Yokohama-shi Kanagawa 230-0051 japan

(my name) 230-0051 Yokohama-shi Kanagawa tsurumichuo Tsurumi-ku X-X-X japan
It would be:
HER NAME X-X-X Tsurumi-chuo Tsurmi-ku Yokohama, Kanagawa 230-0051 JAPAN
That format is what I use, some people put the postal code after Kanagawa, that works to, it doesn't matter really.
