We have 2 8-yr olds and we are looking for fun things for them/us to do in Kyoto (other than the zoo). What do you recommend.

PixieN, There's the "Sagano Sighteeing Train" at Arashiyama in Kyoto. Despite the "tram" description on the website, this is a full-size open-sided train that chugs through some pretty spectacular scenery for about 30 minutes. Children should find it fun. Adults might want to take a cushion, as the unspring carriages with hard wooden seats can be painful after 30 minutes! There is also a small piano and steam locomotive (great combination!) museum at the end of the line, but while I haven't been there myself, I hear that it is rather dull. http://www.sagano-kanko.co.jp/eng/index.htm
