help with japanese itinerary

I am very excited to plan a wonderful trip to Japan for my husband who loves the culture. We will be arriving and leaving from Tokyo and plan to spend 3 weeks in Japan.
Here is my itinerary I put together. I would appreciate and ideas or comments anyone would share with me to make this work better.
June 25-29 Tokyo with day trips to Nikko and Kamakura
June30 Tokyo to Hakone (overnite)
July 1 Hakone to Takayama (overnite)
July2-4 Kyoto
July5-6 Nara
July 7 Mt Koya (overnite)
July 8 Hirooshima (overnite)
July 9-12 Return to Kyoto,
July 13, 14 Tokyo
July 15 depart for home
Do you think this is too ambitious?
Can you suggest hotels/ryokans or even a monestary in Koyasan that we might consider? Is there anything else we should consider or any information we should have?

It is a bit too busy...
Please take into account traveling time between the places. For example, it takes 5 hrs from Hakone to Takayama, 4 hrs from Takayama to Kyoto, 4.5 hrs from Koya to Hiroshima.
