Does anyone know of a swordsmith you can visit in Tokyo or Kyoto. (I know this question was asked a couple of years ago, but sometimes things change.) We're going to Tokyo and Kyoto in July and we'd like to actually see them making a sword (pounding, folding, etc). Any advice?

Between Tokyo and Kyoto in Gifu Prefecture there is a town called Seki that is historically famous for making swords. They have a sword and knife festival every year (in October, I think).

I've watched the sword making at Seki. Apart from festival time when it busy, they do a demonstration of sword making at the museum the first Sunday of March, April, June, November at 10:00, 13:30, 14:30. You may need to check details in case it's changed.

I have an "in" with swordmakers (KATANA-KAJI)and performers of drawing real swords (IAI) in Seki city. You need some rewards (money) to them.
