Travel to Himeji from Mt. Koya

I'm interested in staying two nights on Mt. Koya. The first night we will be coming from Kyoto. Is it feasible to go from Mt. Koya to Himeji Castle as a day trip from Mt. Koya and then back to Mt. Koya for a second night?
