reservations 2008/2/29 12:54
-yoyaku irete oku

This means to make a reservation, correct? I got it in a mail from a friend I am meeting- she said "yoyakuireteokune!", so I assume she means she will make a reservation somewhere ^^;

I just previously always used yoyaku suru and wanted to know if there was any nuance/difference in meaning.

thanks in advance!

yoyaku wo ireru...
sounde like She is going to make reservation NOW.

"yoyaku wo ireru" = to make/place a reservation

"yoyaku wo irete oku" = to arrange for/take care of making a reservation (for an upcoming trip, etc.)

"...(te-form of a verb) + oku" adds the addtional meaning of having something done and ready (for an event, for a trip, etc.), taking care of/arranging to be ready for something.

Just to add 2008/3/2 12:49
"yoyaku wo ireru" = to make/place a reservation
"yoyaku suru" = to reserve, to book
...They both mean the same thing.

You can use the "(te) + oku" expression with "yoyaku suru" and say "yoyaku shite oku," to take care of/arrange for making a reservation.
