Driving & parking in Kyoto 2008/3/4 11:28
We plan to drive form Nagoya to Kyoto In early April. How feasible is it to drive and park to visit the top ten sites in Kyoto. Traffic jam? parking expensive and scarce? Will it be better to take the the train then public transportation around Kyoto or rent a scooter?

Kyoto has bad traffic jams, and I imagine parking to be a headache. Kyoto is one of only a couple of cities (others being Tokyo and Osaka), where I recommend against using a car for urban sightseeing.

Kyoto in April is soooo bad. You'll end up spending all of your precious time stuck in traffic. Don't do it.

Words can not express how silly your idea of driving from Nagoya to Kyoto is.

How about driving in Sapporo, Hakodate and Asahikawa? Will it be better off taking public transport?

Sapporo is easy to navigate by subways and buses. But a car is convenient, too.

Hakodate's main sights can be easily accessed by public transportation. Again, a car is handy, too.

Not sure about Asahikawa.
