to tokyo through nagano, matsumoto? 2008/3/7 10:41
Hi,

I am planning on traveling to Tokyo from Kyoto in a couple of weeks and was wondering if it is possible to go through Matsumoto and Nagona as a long day trip? Also how could I find out about how much this would cost? I am a student and need to save money if possible!
Thank you!!

It is possible, but you won't have too much time in Nagano and Matsumoto:

Tokyo - (shinansen) - Nagano - (regular train) - Matsumoto - (limited express) - Nagoya - (shinkansen) - Kyoto

You can look up timetables here:

The one way fare would be around 18,000 yen.

thank you for both responses.
Perhaps I will chose just one of them then. If anyone has suggestion I would like to hear them...I am leaning towards Matsumoto because the castle looks beautiful!

Matsumoto 2008/3/7 19:18
I would just go for Matsumoto, otherwise you will have no time to see anything in either city.

A couple of possibles:

07.16 - 07.51 Kyoto: Shinkansen Nozomi 64 to Nagoya.
08.00 - 10.03 Nagoya: Limited Express Shinano 3 to Matsumoto.
9880 Yen.

or

08.16 - 08.51 Kyoto: Shinkansen Nozomi 70 to Nagoya.
09.00 - 11.03 Nagoya: Limited Express Shinano 5 to Matsumoto.
9880 Yen.

or

09.25 - 13.03 Kyoto: Limited Express Shinano 9 to Matsumoto.
8490 Yen.

17.18/19.21/20.00 - 20.08/22.09/22.36 Matsumoto: Limited Express Azusa 30/34/36 to Shinjuku, Tokyo.
6710 Yen

Prices are with reserved seat.
