night bus/train: Nagoya to Osaka

I'll arrive Nagoya about 20.00 PM and want to go to Osaka to get to hotel. I have JR Pass, but decided not to use it on that day.
So, do you have any suggestion for the cheapest way to get there?
Or, if I can't go to hotel on that night, can I travel via bus/train on that night?
