hokkaido in May - cherryblossom?

I will be arriving on 16May and leaving on 25May (about 8 and 1/2 days stay). Intend to cover central/east hokkaido (sapporo, abashiri, asahikawa, akan etc) and possibly catch cherry blossom.
1) Would you recommend Nijukken road or Matsumae park for catching the cherry blossom? or any other sites?
2) would my itinerary be able to fit in a visit to Hakodate/Matsumae park? Would it be too rush?
3) is it easy to reach Nijukken Road from Sapporo by self-drive? any other places of interest around the shizunai area or recommended hotels?
