I cannot find a bus connecting Matsumoto and Kawaguchiko.

From Matsumoto, take JR Limited Express Super Azusa to Ootsuki and switch to Fuji Kyuko. The whole journey takes 6120 yen and 3 hrs 15 min.

There is no direct bus service.

Catch the Chuo Line train to Kofu, and change to the Fujikyu bus to Kawaguchiko. It's faster and cheaper.

From Matsumoto to Kofu, search a train schedule in the links below.

From Kofu to Kawaguchiko, refer to the bus timetable below. Look at the second chart.

Price:1,430 yen

b{w = Kofu Station
b{wk = Kofu Station north exit
͌Ήw = Kawaguchiko Station

We took the train and then rented a car from Kofu and dropped it off at Kawaguchi-ko with NO drop charge. The Toyota shop is just across the road in front of Kofu station and the shop in Kawaguchi-ko is 5 mins walk from the bus stop/train stn. It's not expensive at all to rent in Japan and there are a few peach farms along the way. The sites around Kawaguchi-ko are spread out so having a car is best. You could also drive up to the 5th station of Fuji-san.
