Has anyone been to Shirakawa-go? Is it difficult to get to and worth the trip?

I think Shirakawa-go is lovely. As far as how to get there, I think renting a car is best, but there are many, many, many posts on that subject in this forum, and you can easily find the answers on how to get there via train or bus by searching here.
