if i leave shinagawa early (around 6.30 am) for a shinkansen to kyoto, do you think i should make ticket reservations in advance? or do you think there would be a lot of vacant seats at that time then i dont need to make any reservation?

If you are refering to the Hikari401 leaving Shinagawa at
6:31, you might want to book a seat in advance.
The train originates at Tokyo, therefore the unreserved section may have been full by the time you catch it at Shinagawa.
Hikari is infrequent compared with Nozomi.
