I am in Tokyo for 4 days than travel to Osaka. Is it buying a 7 day JR pass worth it or is there a cheaper way?

Without knowing your exact itinerary, it is impossible to say.
You can look up train fares on the HyperDia site below to see whether the Japan Rail Pass will save you money compared with individual tickets
