japan manga schools 2008/11/18 00:26
Hi

The school Gekiga Sonjuku and they have a
webpage at
http://www.vta.tfc.co.jp/koike/

If you are interested in contacting them you can at:

Koike Kazuo Juku
Tohoku Shinsha Shinjuku Biru
Shinjuku 1-18-14
Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo-to, Japan

TEL. 03-3352-7084 FAX 03-3352-7089

That said, unless you speak near native level Japanese it is highly unlikely you can go there; you would also need to do something else to get a visa to stay in Japan. Their course is 400,000 yen, meets every Sat. night from 6:30-8:30 and is limited to just 40 students for the 9 month course. The course starts every June.

There are other places as well such as the Nippon Engineering College, in Tokyo but again there is nothing geared for foreigners to study there. There is a very insightful article on being an anime artist in Japan,

The Hard Realities of Make-Believe; In anime, the hours are long and the pay paltry. But for many Japanese, it's still a dream job

by Colin Joyce in the Los Angeles Times. Mar 24, 2004.
pg. A.6

You can read it by either going to a large city library and reading it off its microfilm files, or you can pay US$3
for the article, or read an online post of it at
http://forums.yellowworld.org/showthread.php?t=14910

There is also an excellent site on getting set up in Japan at:
http://www.thejapanfaq.com
and a good list of the cost of typical items in Japan at:

Best of luck!
