Hi, I was wondering if anyone had had any experience of using Skype to learn Japanese. I've found the following site which offers online Japanese lessons using Skype ( http://www.verbalplanet.com/learn-japanese.asp ) but would like to know how effective Skype is as a learning tool?

i think its a great idea, because youll be able to practice on speaking back, and thats one of the single easiest ways to learn how to speak japanese. Not exactly on reading though, Kanji as always you need to use flash cards or some other methods of learning them. I think it would be cheaper though to find a friend/pen pal that uses skype but that service does seem nice.
