kanji for family name? 2008/7/30 08:35
My fiance is 1/2 Japanese and I wanted to present him with a framed gift of his family name (Okura) in kanji for a wedding gift. His father was Japanese and died long ago, as did his Japanese grandparents. I have tried to do internet searches but only come up with the 'Okura' hotel. Any help is appreciated.

If it's "Okura" with short "o," possible candidate would be 小倉.
With long "o (or oh)" as in Okura hotel, either 大倉 or 大蔵 can be used.

Holly,

In other words, don't do it unless you are 100% sure you have the right kanji.
