Teaching for a Year? 2008/8/23 03:48
Hi,
I would really like to take a year off after college before University to go and teach English in Japan. (I live in the UK so college leaving age is 18). Are there any pro grammes or agencies that could help with the costs without wanting me to have a degree? Is this even realistic considering I won't have a degree, although I am expecting a high level A level in English and my other grades have always been very high as well?

You need a university degree or many years of professional experience in order to get a working visa as language teacher. However, if you have the UK citizenship, you can apply for a working holiday visa:

Check out this guy's blog- he came to Japan on a gap year and has just left.

He taught English at various places- some employers will hire 18 year olds on working holiday visas if they make a good impression and you can also pick up private students through various agencies.
