working holiday to work visa?

The company I'm working for wants to hire me after my working holiday visa runs out. Can you change your visa status from a working holiday visa to work visa? If you can, do you have to leave the country to do so or can you do the change of status here?

Assuming you meet all the requirements for a regular work visa, then yes they can sponsor you to a work visa, and you can change it in Japan, you can change it in Japan now if you want, all they have to do is get the paperwork process rolling, and all you do is apply for a "Change of Status".
Again assuming you meet the qualifications for a full fledge work visa.
