Does Japan celebrate Lunar CNY? 2008/12/10 12:15
I would like to visit Tokyo during the coming Lunar Chinese New Year (CNY) break (Jan 26-27 2009). Wondering if Japan celebrates Lunar CNY? And if yes, will the shopping centres / restaurants be closed during this period?

No. "Chinese New Year" is celebrated among the Chinese population in Japan, so you will see festivities in China Town in different parts of Japan (for example, Yokohama and Kobe), but it is not a holiday in Japan.

Nope those are regular working days, so things will be open as usual.

Book early... 2008/12/11 20:41
Greetings, you will have a great time, but remember to book early, I do work in Taipei but live in Japan and travel frequently back and forth, with more and more companies extending their CNY break my agent warned me to book now in order to get a seat. Not sure if this applies to your itinerary, best of luck and wish you an excellent trip to Japan ! Best, Ted
