just wondering, I am going to live in Tsukuba with my girlfriend for minimum of a year, and wondering has anyone used this visa before, (anyone from Ireland particularly, but anyone at all would be of help!)

I'm not Irish, but I originally came to Japan on a working holiday visa, and I know many others who have- it's a pretty well trodden path, although perhaps not so popular in Ireland yet.
You don't ask any specific questions though- what exactly do you want to know?
If you do some searching you will find lots of info about WHVs on the internet, as well as blogs by people who came to Japan on WHVs.
