Are you looking for mobile internet, i.e. cell based, WAN, etc.? The major cell phone companies in Japan offer cell based internet.

If you're just looking for regular broadband for your home then check out:

Sorry about that. Its because you were asking a new question in an old thread, and I was in the process of turning your post into a new question. For convenience I'm deleting your other thread and moving the question here.

From other thread:

Hi, I want to know if there's any information on subscribing to wireless internet for my laptop. I'm planning on living in Japan this year for a long time, and would like a reliable, good company with international capabilities. Also, broadband speed would be nice. Anyone know about a company like this and their rates?
Also, I'm planning on a Softbank mobile phone. Maybe they package??

All of the cellphone companies have wireless subscription service but I don't know how fast their connections are. I think the flat rate for unlimited access is about 5,000 yen/mo. In Tokyo, you can get free wireless broadband access at many coffee shops, McDonalds, and major subway terminals.

DoCoMo, KDDI(au) and e-mobile offer broadband flat-rate PC data communication services.

Willcom is a pioneer in this field but cannot deserve "broadband".

Softbank does not offer similar services.

In Tokyo, you can get free wireless broadband access at many coffee shops, McDonalds, and major subway terminals.

Most of them are paid, not free.

You don't have to pay to use the wireless connection at McDonald's or the subway stations. You just need to pay for your meal or subway ticket. Then you can just sit and use your computer.

Wrong (at least in Tokyo).

Public WLAN in Japanese McDonalds is Yahoo/SoftBank's BB Mobile Point.

The one in Tokyo subway stations is BB Mobile Point, NTT DoCoMo's Mzone, and NTT's M-Flets/Flets Spot.

All are paid (mainly monthly).

Every cell phone company offers wireless internet services. These services are separate from phone service and they all require that you subscribe to a service plan with contracts from 1-2 years. You usually have to buy the equipment as well (a usb, pcmcia, or expresscard). Since the services vary so much, you're gonna have to check them out and figure out what works best for you.

Willcom is the pioneer in wireless internet in Japan, and is what our office uses on business trips. They are said to have the best coverage area. Their website lists their max speed as 408 kbps, which is slower than the other companies but still considered broadband.

http://www.willcom-inc.com/en/service/data/index.html

Docomo offers service with speeds up to 3.6 Mbps.

Au has 2 services with different top speeds (2.4 and 3.1 Mbps).

http://www.au.kddi.com/english/data/index.html

Softbank offers speeds up to 3.6 Mbps.

and E-mobile has a terrible English website with no service info except that they have a new wireless internet service with speeds up to 1.4 Mbps.
