Nail art salons

Hi!
I'm just wondering if I can just walk into a nail salon and ask them to make my nails, or do I have to make some kind of resrevation?
I saw many salons in my last Japan trip but I was too chicken to try to survive with my poor english!
Should I try next time?

I've simply walked into ones in shopping malls and had my nails done - if they are too busy and cannot take any customers right then, they will tell you, and maybe suggest a later time so you can come back. Or if they have absolutely noone who can speak in English, they might somehow communicate that to you too :) Note that nail salons here are on the expensive side, so be sure to check the price list. On the same topic. What prices can I expect say for basic acrylic in fills. Also can they do really funky designs?
