I have been watching a Shinto wedding on a video.At one point a girl ties a white ribbon on a tree or bush that has hundreds of other ribbons on it what is the meaning of this

Together with other Shinto objects, they are explained on the following page. They are known as shime or gohei and usually come together with a rope in the form of shimenawa:
