Soy sauce 2009/4/9 21:38
I like sushi, but I don't really like soy sauce. Would it be impolite to eat the sushi without dipping it in soy sauce?

Thanks!

Could it be that your disliking of soy sauce stems from bad soy sauce served in restaurants outside of Japan? It is not rare that unrefrigerated, stinky soy sauce or even non-Japanese soy sauce, which does not match well with sushi, is served in "Japanese" restaurants outside of Japan.

I strongly recommend to try the soy sauce once more when you have sushi in Japan. If you still don't like it, it won't offend anybody if you don't dip your sushi in it.
