2010 Super Bowl in Sapporo? 2010/1/12 11:41
I'll be in Sapporo for the Snow Festival this year and am hoping not to miss the Super Bowl. The game will be live February 8th around 8:30am local time in Japan. Will the game be on a channel that tvs in hotels get? Is there a bar in town that will open up early and have it? Thanks.

COMFORTS OF HOTEL ROOM 2010/1/13 23:42
Call ahead and ascertain that hotel does subscribe to NHK - BS Channel (8:10 a.m. JST)... have them chips & salsa and plenty of beers ready...http://www.nhk.or.jp/sports/

If you miss it see it another time

You can also catch the replay at 18:15 on NHK BS-1 or for those of you who don't have BS-tuners you'll have to wait until 24:29 on N-TV. The game will also be rebroadcast several times throughout the week on either N-TV G+ (whatever that is) or GAORA. http://www.nfljapan.com/schedule/

The Super Bowl, and football in general, is one of the greatest sacrifices Americans must pay for being in Japan...

If your hotel offers BS (it's the national cable network offering about 8 channels), then you can watch it. Football broadcasts are split between a few networks but in the past the SB has always been live on BS1.

I don't know about Sapporo but football isn't so big here, especially because of the time difference so finding a Superbowl party will be difficult.

I advise you to plan ahead and organize your own party!
