What is the staple foods of Japan - those most commonly grown and eaten.

I thought everyone knew rice was the staple here? Maybe not. I would add miso and other soy products like tofu and soy sauce.

While I agree that miso and shoyu (soy sauce) are very important part of Japanese food, OP says " those most commonly grown and eaten" and sadly about 95% of soy beans are imported.
